Time Warner Telecom Expands Managed VPN Solutions Suite

Time Warner Telecom Inc. (Nasdaq: TWTC), a leading provider of managed voice and data networking solutions for businesses, today announced the expansion of its Virtual Private Networking (VPN) solutions suite to include a managed network-centric, MPLS-based VPN solution, along with its previous offerings of IP Sec VPN and its inter-city Ethernet VPN (Extended Native LAN service) announced in 2004.

One of Time Warner Telecom's initial customers for the new IP VPN solution is Coastal Federal Credit Union, based in Raleigh, N.C. This 140,000-member credit union is currently using Time Warner Telecom's bundled voice and data service and a wide-area Ethernet solution in its 22 locations. Time Warner Telecom will complete installation of its new IP VPN solution to 21 Automated Teller Machines (ATM) locations by October. Plans include expanding the VPN service to include as many as 50 additional locations.

The new Time Warner Telecom VPN solution is for enterprises looking to streamline their networks; to connect their headquarters, branch and satellite locations; and to various access technologies, to connect to a fully-integrated, easily-managed network backbone. With the advantages of a converged backbone, these businesses can now better manage their voice and data applications.

This new managed service is designed to meet customers' needs for convergence and end-to-end management of their service. Additional benefits include the flexibility to add or make changes to their network configurations, and the scalability to go from one to "n" locations. This service is cost effective, compared to traditional WAN technologies and is a viable replacement for ATM or Frame Relay.

In 2004, Time Warner Telecom introduced its IP Sec VPN solution and its Extended Native LAN solution. Extended Native LAN, or ENLAN, is an extension of Time Warner Telecom's industry-leading metro Ethernet infrastructure between cities. It offers an Ethernet-centric VPN solution that many customers use to create a national backbone. This solution serves enterprises that need to connect their data centers with large backbone networks; for business continuity applications; and for those wanting to replace their less flexible private networks.

ENLAN solutions are currently available from Time Warner Telecom at speeds from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps, depending upon business size and need. This enables customers to send preferred amounts of traffic from any location to any city across the country. By using an Ethernet network, end-to-end customers forego a protocol conversion, avoiding the cost of additional equipment and rely on Time Warner Telecom to manage the details. Time Warner Telecom takes care of deploying and managing ENLAN with the equipment customers already have at their locations. High-speed transmission, business continuity and ease of use are some of the capabilities customers prefer with ENLAN from Time Warner Telecom.

Time Warner Telecom's IP Sec VPN solution is economical and can integrate a variety of access technologies. This solution is particularly useful for secure, encrypted branch office connectivity.
