Tape Storage Product

The next generation of the high-performance, high capacity Magstar 3590 tape storage product doubles the current storage capacity and provides faster data transfer speeds. The resulting increase in capacity and performance allows customers to potentially double the storage capability of their existing tape subsystems, with better backup times, without adding more physical space.

The product's E drives are backwards-read compatible with cartridges written on current Magstar 3590 drives and can be upgraded onsite. When used with the new drive, the more than seven million Magstar cartridges already owned by customers can potentially be doubled in capacity and doubled in value.

The company's Magstar products connect to major server platforms, both IBM and non-IBM, and are supported by leading storage management software products. With the recent introduction of the IBM SAN Data Gateway, the products are attaching to Fibre Channel Storage Area Networks (SANs). They are also building blocks for the company's Seascape(1) enterprise storage architecture.
