The scanner complements the SAFEsuite scanning products, including Internet Scanner and Database Scanner. Internet Security Systems (ISS)ner provides users with an "inside-out" view of their critical systems and servers and effectively manages the security and integrity of these systems utilizing a baseline approach.

The scanner leverages X-Force Security Knowledge Base to scan systems automatically, applying a comprehensive set of host-based security vulnerability checks and policy rules to quickly identify security risks. It helps customers close the security gap by establishing a critical baseline and then closely managing that baseline to identify any deviations that may signify a security problem. The scanner includes built-in "best practice" configurations based on years of consulting experience in security policy management. Designed to support the flexibility required by changing e-business and enterprise environments, security assessments can be centralized or distributed. Hundreds of servers can be grouped together for ease of management yet variances can be granted on a single machine basis.

The version includes automatic and customizable security policy compliance checks, centralized enterprise management, comprehensive platform support, and X-Press Updates - the automatic and rapid release of new security tests ensuring ongoing information protection from the latest security risks.
