Synchronix FibrePACC

The Synchronix FibrePACC (Performance, Availability, Capacity and Connectivity) is a scalable, high-performance, continuously-available storage solution that lets you take advantage of fibre channel technology today -- and keep pace with tomorrow's power and performance.

High Performance Storage
The FibrePACC delivers bandwidth of up to 400 MB/sec. Here is the secret of storage that nobody but ECCS will tell you. Cache isn't all it's cracked up to be. More and more we're seeing that data set size and the kinds of access being done are making cache not only irrelevant, it's also slowing you down. Keepers of this secret usually have a refrigerator sized storage units with buckets of cache in them that can't be turned off. At ECCS we evaluate the I/O pattern of the customer to ensure we're giving the right solutions. The solution may well be that you are being slowed down by Cache and RAID controller latency. With FibrePACC we've been able to double the real world throughput of large Oracle Databases by partnering with Veritas. A Sun E4000 or better, Veritas and ECCS FibrePACC make an unbeatable performance solution in many situations.

Modular Packaging
Each FibrePACC houses up to ten high performance fibre channel disk drives in any combination of Seagate's Cheetah 10K Drives. The FC-AL interface's loop redundancy circuit (LRC) allows the removal or insertion of multiple drives from an active loop without impacting data throughput or availability. The packaging is configured around a virtual chassis midplane board that carries power and data buses eliminating essentially all internal cabling.

Reliability, Serviceability, and Maintainability
The FibrePACC is designed for high availability and low maintenance. All active components are fully fault tolerant and hot swappable. Any failed component can be replaced on-line, to quickly return the unit to full performance, redundancy and fault tolerance. All ten disk drives, in protective canisters, are removed and replaced from the front, while the dual load-sharing power supplies, fans, or fibre channel interface boards are hot swappable from the rear. Dual AC circuits complete the high availability features.

Scalable Capacity
ECCS scales FibrePACC up to 8 Trays per cabinet. Normally, two cabinets are used for electrical separation and Veritas is used to mirror data from one cabinet to the other. ECCS helped a large American Food Chain halve its nightly inventory runs when they switched from a refrigerator storage unit to the sanity of FibrePACC.
