Supercomm 2000: Siemens Access System Integrates Narrowband and Broadband Services on a Single Shelf

Debuting at Supercomm, Siemens Information and Communication Networks Inc. (Boca Raton, FL) is promising faster, more flexible, easier digital subscriber line (DSL) deployment is now possible with the new Accession integrated access platform. Capable of delivering lifeline plain old telephone service (POTS), digital subscriber line (DSL) data services, and voice over DSL on the same platform, this carrier-class broadband access system eases the addition of data and voice service mixes to even the most remote service areas.

Enabling service providers to build revenues by adding multiple virtual subscriber lines on a single loop pair, Siemens it can offer carriers a solution for deploying DSL service in areas previously deemed unreachable with DSL and their existing digital loop carrier (DLC) equipment.

The Accession platform is available as either a standalone hardened outdoor system, or as a shelf for co-location in a central office, enables xDSL deployment in geographic areas previously considered unreachable using existing equipment. The GR-487-compliant outdoor configuration includes all required transmission, environmental and power requirements, while a single NEBS-compliant equipment shelf can be co-located at a central office, reducing the cost of network ownership.

Scheduled for availability in late summer this year, the standards-based Accession platform provides asymmetric DSL (ADSL) and G.Lite capability, along with GR-303 compatible POTS functions, and high-capacity asynchronous transfer mode (ATM) switching on the same shelf. The Accession platform delivers Voice over DSL by interfacing with integrated access devices to provide multiservice data networking capabilities.
