Siemens Teams with ECI for Chipset R&D

Siemens Semiconductors and ECI Telecom Ltd. are cooperating on the definition and design of a discrete multitone (DMT) asymmetric digital subscriber line (ADSL) chipset, which will beincorporated in Siemens' POTSWIRE xDSL portfolio.

Siemens is developing and manufacturing the semiconductor platform. ECI Telecom will contribute its xDSL-based system expertise and the algorithms that are incorporated into the new CARMEL digital signal processor-based data pump.

ADSL modems allow data transfer rates of more than 100 times higher than current 56 sKbps modems or ISDN. ADSL uses existing telephone copper line infrastructure enablefor fast Internet access, video on demand services, and other broadband applications.
