Service-Level Management Software
Netcool/Impact v2.0 integrates several new user-friendly components, including an intuitive new Policy Editor. The Policy Editor is used to define the procedures for assessing the impact of network faults received by Netcool/OMNIbus, which Netcool/Impact applies to events received by Micromuse Inc. EventList. Using a flowcharting metaphor, the Policy Editor is invoked when network administrators need to define new policies or change the behavior of existing ones.
Additionally, as an integral part of the GUI, the Policy Editor now provides a clear visualization of the actions and the conditions leading to subsequent actions. This allows network operators responsible for service impact analysis to quickly interpret fault data to resolve problems. In addition, Netcool/Impact v2.0's enriched GUI provides a multiple document interface that allows network operators to view and/or edit multiple Netcool/Impact policies at once.
Additional features of Netcool/Impact v2.0 include:
- New Netcool/Impact Data Source Adapters for CORBA, Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL databases.
- Enhanced Netcool/Impact Data Source Adapters for LDAP and leading relational databases, including Oracle, Sybase, and Informix.
- Higher overall performance capabilities and replication of actions trees/types/hibernations across Netcool/Impact servers.
Netcool/Impact maps organizational knowledge such as in-house provisioning systems or inventory databases with realtime events, allowing NOC personnel to pinpoint the effect of a single event or determine how events will affect services or users.
Netcool/Impact can be configured to automatically warn NOC personnel about a pending problem before they notice a disruption in services by prioritizing and assigning incoming faults and events to particular support technicians. It also facilitates policy management by allowing NOC personnel to define resolution procedures for particular events. Operating systems required for Netcool/Impact include Sun Microsystems Solaris and Microsoft Windows NT 4.0 and higher.
