SAN JOSE, Calif., September 28, 2000 - Secure Computing (NASDAQ: SCUR) announced today that it is helping 3Com Corporation (NASDAQ: COMS) develop the next-generation of information technology security. The two companies are combining their expertise to address a segment of corporate information technology assets that is largely un-addressed today and where, according to recent US Federal Bureau of Investigation ("FBI") studies, the majority of security breeches occur – inside the perimeter of the firewalls..

"As our customers expand their IT infrastructure into the world of extranets, opening them up to customers, suppliers and partners, ‘insiders' have potential access to all parts of internal networks. Classic perimeter firewall approaches and firewalls in front of applications aren't enough to ensure information security," said Steve Rowley, senior vice president, corporate business development, 3Com. "3Com chose to work with Secure Computing because it is a leader in enterprise security solutions."

Product details are not being provided at this time but the companies confirmed that products resulting from their cooperation would be announced in the first half of 2001.

"Securing the extranet is a huge issue when one considers the FBI study that shows 58% of security issues are the result of insider intrusions. Being able to protect all the data in a company's infrastructure becomes critical," said John McNulty, chairman & CEO of Secure Computing. "Our strength is the flexibility and scalability of our authentication solution SafeWord along with the uncompromised security of our Sidewinder firewall. Putting these together with 3Com's network experience, being able to know who is on the network, what they are authorized to do and enforce it where ever and when ever they are in your extranet will be incredibly reassuring for a CIO."
