Prisa to Provide Fibre Channel Networking for DVCPRO News Automation System

Panasonic Broadcast & Digital Systems Co. has selected gigabit-speed Fibre Channel network equipment from Prisa Networks for Panasonic's new DVCPRO News Automation (DNA) digital video server system. DNA is a highly automated end-to-end central server system based on Panasonic's DVCPRO professional video recording and file format.

The DNA system consists of high-speed newsBYTE nonlinear video editing systems networked with Silicon Graphics Origin200 GIGAchannel servers. Prisa's NetFX Fibre Channel host adapters, hubs, and networking software will be used to provide access to any media file on the network as though it were stored locally. Ciprico FibreSTORE on-line disk arrays provide the DNA system with a total of 24 hours of on-line storage.

Last month, CBS owned-and-operated station KYW-TV, Channel 3 in Philadelphia, PA purchased the first DNA system, valued at $1.1 million, for news post-production and multi-channel playback to air.
