Seagate Technology Inc. (Scotts Valley, CA) continued its cost-cutting program last week with plans to shut down plants in Anaheim, CA, and Mexicali, Mexico, and to lay off about 1,200 workers. The disk-drive maker said it will take a $35 million charge for the plant closures in the current quarter. Since 1998, Seagate has reduced its work force from 106,000 to about 61,360.
