Source: Pirelli Cables & Systems North America
LEXINGTON, S.C. – Pirelli Cables & Systems North America, offers a range of fiber optic cables with the highest fiber counts in the industry to give communications network builders the solutions they need for maximum current capacity with future-proof expandability.

The latest in the Pirelli lineup of ultra-high-count designs is the 1,728-fiber Ribbon-In-Loose-Tube (RILT) MassLink™ cable.

Pirelli also has recently introduced
· a new higher-fiber-count Premises Ribbon Distribution cable with 288 optical fibers;
· CurbLink™ Plus cable, a high-fiber-count composite cable for remote powering and Fiber-to-the-Curb (FTTC) applications;
· FlexLink™ Loose Tube Cable with up to 312 optical fibers;
· The OptiLink™ family of high-fiber-count, Bundled-in-Loose-Tube (BILTTM) and Armored Bundled-in-Loose-Tube (ABILTTM) fiber optic cables available with up to 432 optical fibers.

1,728-fiber RILT MassLink cable
Pirelli's 1,728-fiber RILT MassLink cable represents the next generation of ultra-high-fiber-count ribbon cable for outside plant applications. The company has been the consistent leader in developing cables that maximize existing rights of way and meet the high capacity and compact design requirements of metropolitan environments. In 1995 Pirelli was the first to offer a 432-fiber design. It introduced industry-leading 720- and 864-fiber designs in 1998, and its 1,152-fiber MassLink cable made its debut last year.

Premises Ribbon Distribution cable
Pirelli's Premises Ribbon Distribution Cables are designed to enable the economical and efficient transition of high-fiber-count outside plant ribbon cable from the splice vault into the customer's communications center. At the increased fiber count of 288, the new cables permit a higher port density within the customer's communication center, thus increasing carrying capacity.

CurbLink Plus cable
Pirelli's CurbLink Plus composite cable is available in configurations with up to 120 optical fibers. The design is based on proven loose tube technology, and Pirelli's Dri-FlexTM technology construction gives CurbLink Plus cable the flexible buffer tubes and dry water-blocking technology that reduces installation time. The fiber optic portion of CurbLink Plus cables meets GR-20 and RUS PE-90 specifications.

FlexLink Loose Tube Cable
Available in unarmored and single armor/double jacket designs, FlexLink loose tube cables are composed of 26 buffer tubes in a dual layer design, with 12 fibers per buffer tube. The buffer tubes are stranded around a central strength member, facilitating mid-span access and providing ease of handling. This design provides high packing density with a small outer diameter (0.87" for unarmored cable and 1.02" for armored), which allows installation in conventional inner ducts. FlexLink cable's compact design makes it ideal for deployment in metropolitan environments, where existing ducts are nearing capacity while demand for bandwidth is increasing.

FlexLink cables can accommodate all types of standard single-mode, non-zero dispersion shifted (NZDS) fiber and Metropolitan Optimized NZDS fibers, the most widely used fiber types in today's networks.

OptiLink Bundle-in-Loose-Tube and Armored Bundled-in-Loose-Tube cables
OptiLink cables are available with up to 432 optical fibers. Each of a maximum of six buffer tubes is conveniently packaged with up to six bundles of 12 fibers. Each bundle is identifiable with industry standard colors. The buffer tubes are stranded around a central strength member, facilitating mid-span access and providing ease of handling. This design provides high packing density with a small outer diameter, allowing installation in most innerducts.

OptiLink cables feature Dri-FlexTM technology construction that includes extremely flexible buffer tubes as well as dry water-blocking technology. Flooding gels are eliminated in favor of water-blocking material, facilitating cable preparation and reducing labor costs.

OptiLink cables are available in unarmored, single armor/single jacket and single armor/double jacket designs, and can accommodate all types of standard single-mode, non-zero dispersion shifted (NZDS) fiber and Metropolitan Optimized NZDS fibers.

Pirelli's also provides Premises fiber optic cables to meet virtually any LAN installation or campus application need. Premises Ribbon Interconnect Cable and Premises Ribbon Distribution Cable are ideally suited to the network needs of the central office, co-location sites, Internet hotels and similar installations.

Pirelli's FTTx offerings include integrated optical networking equipment and cable solutions for central office, multiple access and single-point applications, all designed to provide for low installation costs and low maintenance costs.
