ONI Systems' OPTX management portal enables Virtual Private Optical Networks

This new product enables carriers to provide self-service management of leased Virtual Private Optical Network (VPON) services over the Web, minimize network operations costs, and offer revenue generating features. The OPTX Management Portal is generally available worldwide today.
"ONI's OPTX Management Portal is an essential component for the future of networks that deliver leased services in the metro space. Our customers will be able to reconfigure their leased services with ultra-fast provisioning intervals, monitor faults and performance and become even more responsive to all network issues. We are looking forward to delivering differentiated VPON services with the help of ONI's industry leading technology," said Peter Tierney, vice chairman of Sphera Optical Networks.
"Our customers look to us for optical networking solutions that provide competitive advantages: increased automation, greater flexibility, and lowered costs," said Teresa Engelhard, vice president, Software Solutions at ONI Systems. "Across our customer base, we saw a need for VPON services and Web-based management additions to our integrated solutions. This new product proves that we listen and deliver on multiple dimensions."
The OPTX Management Portal is the newest member of the OPTX software suite, which delivers a wide range of advanced operations automation capabilities across ONI's dynamic optical networking solutions. The carrier's customer can now dynamically activate, groom and monitor wavelength, SONET/SDH, and data services.
The list of features includes the ability to view and generate performance monitoring (PM) reports in real-time to validate Service Level Agreements (SLAs). The secure, scalable and reliable customer network management (CNM) application enables carriers to offer highly differentiated revenue generating VPON services, while reducing operations costs as empowered customers manage their own leased services.
The OPTX Management Portal is a "clientless" application that is accessible virtually anywhere via a secure Web browser. Customers do not have to install and manage additional client software to utilize any of its advanced management capabilities through the Internet.
