The Version 1.1 upgrade adds an improved, easier-to-navigate GUI (graphical user interface), increased storage capacity up to 1 terabyte, a more robust processing and analysis engine, and an optional high-speed interface.

All of NIKSUN's network appliances are based on the company's patent-pending high-performance data capture, analysis and storage platform. The NetDetector security system recognizes anomalous IP-related activity that may be the result of illegal and harmful network intrusion. NetDetector makes continuous copies of specific or all data from the network, accurately timestamps recorded data, analyzes every session, detects anomalous activities, sets alarms for real-time alerting, and gathers evidence for post-event analysis and legal prosecution. NetDetector can also recreate keystroke by keystroke activity of an intruder for detailed forensic analysis.

Once NetDetector discovers inappropriate activity, it can archive traffic data and alerts the system administrator via console, SNMP alarms, e-mail, or pager. The system also allows for easy replay of all network activity – like a "network security camera" – to aid in investigation of network events and intrusions, and assist rapid recovery from security breaches. The system adds intelligence and ammunition for uncovering and correcting security lapses that may still exist.
