N+I 1999: Micromuse, Seagate Software Demo Product Integration

Service-level management software vendor Micromuse Inc. (San Francisco, CA) and Seagate Software, a provider of storage management solutions for Microsoft Windows NT Server and Windows NT Workstation operating systems, will demonstrate data integration between Micromuse's Netcool applications and Seagate NerveCenter v3.5. By seamlessly exchanging event-management data, the integration of the two products potentially will enable network operations centers (NOC) to more cost-effectively manage large and rapidly growing networks.

The Netcool/NerveCenter demonstration will be featured at Micromuse's Booth # 2042 throughout the Networld+Interop '99 conference.

Netcool is based on the "ObjectServer," an in-memory database that collects events from more than 100 management environments including Seagate NerveCenter. Netcool allows NOC operators to custom-design real-time views of the availability of network services and applications. Micromuse markets an off-the-shelf Netcool software probe written specifically to accept data polled by Seagate NerveCenter.

Seagate NerveCenter 3.5 is proactive event management software that automatically manages network events and takes appropriate actions to avoid unforeseen network problems. Using "Smart Polling," the software reports only critical events to Netcool via a direct connection with a Netcool software probe. Netcool then allows operators to view and respond to real-time events that affect the availability of services.

Seagate Software is a subsidiary of Seagate Technology Inc. (Scotts Valley, CA) that develops tools and applications for enterprise information management.
