Network Video Appliance

New features and capabilities of the company's MPEG-based network video appliance have been introduced. A VBrick video network appliance is an MPEG audio/video encoder, decoder, video conference system, multicast IP server, multicast IP client, terminal server, ATM end-point, and ATM switch.

New capabilities including: software that allows users to set-up video conferences over IP networks with a simple remote control and new ActiveX controls that allow users to remotely operate VBricks from a web page. The Active X controls also allows users to remotely control peripherals like cameras, VCRs and DVD players

MPEG is the networking industry standard for transmitting high-quality video and audio across IP and asynchronous transfer mode networks. Unlike other compression schemes, MPEG provides full motion, 30 frames per second video. Until recently, the MPEG compression algorithm only was used by broadcasters to carry TV-quality video. Now, with products like the VBrick, MPEG is being adapted for many applications such as video conferencing, distance learning, telemedicine, and surveillance.
