NDC Communications Refocuses, Changes Name

Santa Clara, CA-based NDC Communications, Inc. announced today that it will no longer pursue the institutional wireless LAN business, but rather will redirect its technical skills and experience to wireless residential LANs. To emphasize that move, the company will take on the name SOHOware Inc.

As an existing brand name of a family of consumer-oriented networking equipment, SOHOware allows the company to leverage brand loyalty earned over the past four years, according to Dr. C.T. Wu, president and CEO of the company. The timing of the change coincides with a major push by SOHOware to target the broadband communications market.

Late last year, the company introduced the first product in its CableFREE family that converts a cable or DSL modem data stream to RF signals for wireless transmission throughout a residence. More recently, the company launched a residential gateway product—the linchpin of its SOHOware strategy—that routes data traffic between multiple in-home devices and a cable/DSL modem or broadband-enabled telephone line. The company also plans to launch DOCSIS cable modem and phone line broadband solutions.

SOHOware also announced it will move to expanded facilities to accommodate expected staff growth of more than 300% anticipated in the next two years.
