Mylex fibre raid controller completes SANmark qualification

FREMONT, Calif. – Mylex Corporation, an IBM Company and leading supplier of RAID controllers, today announced that its SANArray FFx has passed the SANmark test suite, becoming one of the first RAID controllers to earn the SANmark Qualified logo. The SANArray FFx is an external, end-to-end Fibre Channel controller that is ideal for Storage Area Network (SAN) environments.

SANmark Qualification is a program developed by the Fibre Channel Industry Association (FCIA). The program requires a product to pass a series of rigorous tests, which are designed to ensure multi-vendor conformance to common network operation, thus promoting heterogeneous Fibre Channel networks and SANs. Mylex has been an FCIA member since the association's inception.

"Mylex is now shipping our fourth generation Fibre Channel product," said Suresh Panikar, director of product marketing for Mylex. "We wholeheartedly support Fibre Channel and shall continue to work with other vendors to increase user confidence in this leading-edge technology."

"With its SANmark qualification program, the FCIA is responding to interoperability issues that may be impeding wider acceptance of SANs," said Dan Tanner, senior analyst of storage and storage management at the Aberdeen Group. "With companies such as Mylex offering SANmark-qualified products, CIOs should be able to deploy storage networks with a higher degree of confidence that the SAN devices will interoperate seamlessly."

"Compatibility is the number one issue for our customers who are planning for SANs," said Haim Brill, president and CEO of Acton, Massachusetts-based Aviv Corp. "We're pleased to see our longtime RAID controller provider taking steps to ensure SAN compatibility."

SANArray FFx is a high-performance external RAID controller that brings Fibre Channel and SAN capabilities to entry-level storage networks. Capable of reading data from RAID 5 sets at over 190 megabytes per second (MB/s) in a typical dual active configuration, the SANArray FFx provides industry-leading bandwidth for a low-cost external RAID controller.

Mylex's SAN-ready controllers can be enhanced with Mylex PATHpilot software that detects data path failures and routes data across alternate paths to enhance availability for e-commerce and other applications. Coherent, mirrored caches protect against data loss and are designed to ensure data currency. SANmapping, a patent-pending Mylex technology, enables the design of heterogeneous SAN environments.

SANArray FFx helps maximize server uptime by offering critical SAN fault-tolerance features, such as multiple-target ID support, pairing for active/active configuration and transparent failover/failback for high-availability and clustered environments.

The SANArray FFx is available now through OEMs and Mylex's worldwide sales and channel network.
