Provides Performance and Connectivity
The 100-megabyte-per-second internal bandwidth of the unit allows simultaneous use of the UltraSCSI ports by multiple host computers. Since any MegaCache-4000 port can be configured to interface to either a host computer or a string of SCSI disk storage devices, a wide range of system requirements can be satisfied. Configuration requirements such as four hosts, each on its own bus, sharing two strings of up to fifteen disks each can be easily satisfied. In multi-host environments, the MegaCache-4000 can be configured to permit either sharing of storage devices or private access to each device or LUN.

Installs Easily and Transparently
MegaCache-4000 installs transparently between the host computer and the existing SCSI storage devices on the system. There is no need to purchase new disks or RAID units to improve system performance. Just inserting MegaCache-4000 between the host computer and the disk storage will improve I/O rates. No system analysis, No manual file transfers, No hassles at all... pure plug-and-play I/O improvement!

Multiple Caching Modes with Full Data Protection
The MegaCache-4000 can be operated in Full Cache, Write Through Cache and Bypass modes. In fact, it can be configured to operate in different modes for each disk or RAID unit attached to it. When READ operations are performed the MegaCache-4000 pre-fetches additional data to minimize the number of times the comparatively slow disk storage must be accessed. WRITE operations can be safely cached (write-back caching) because the unit is equipped with its own internal UPS system that includes a conventional SCSI disk. In the event of a system power failure, this internal disk is used to store all data not yet put on the system disk storage, "dirty tracks." When system power is again restored, all data stored on the MegaCache-4000 internal backup disk is returned to cache memory and also written out to the system disk storage. An internal UPS system is complete in the MegaCache-4000 system with redundant AC inputs, redundant power supplies, redundant batteries, redundant battery chargers, and extensive patrol diagnostics to insure the safety of stored data.

A Wide Range of Capacities Available
Cache capacity from 536 megabytes to a full 12.88 gigabytes can be installed in each MegaCache-4000 chassis, and two separate chassis can be mounted in a single 8-3/4"-high rackmount enclosure. A fully configured enclosure can contain as much as 25.76 gigabytes of storage and 12 separate independent UltraSCSI ports. The MegaCache-4000 is also available in a desktop enclosure offering up to 12.88 gigabytes of storage and six separate independent UltraSCSI ports.
