Lucent Signs OEM Agreement With Efficient Networks

Networking equipment giant Lucent Technologies (Murray Hill, NJ) will OEM asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) equipment from Dallas-based Efficient Networks Inc. Based on the agreement, Lucent will market and distribute Efficient Networks' SpeedStream ADSL routers and modems. These end user products are designed to interoperate with Lucent's AnyMedia ADSL products in network service provider networks.

Lucent's AnyMedia ADSL system is based on ADSL line cards that are plugged into a local or remote AnyMedia access interface unit that is connected to Lucent's 5ESS switch, or a PathStar access server. The AnyMedia access system is a multiservice platform designed to provide network access to any service from any medium including fiber, copper, and wireless.

Both the Lucent and Efficient Networks equipment offer full-rate ADSL transmission and will support for G.Lite at a future date. Lucent will continue to work with Efficient Networks in an effort to achieve interoperability across its entire line of ADSL routers and modems based on chipsets from multiple ADSL silicon suppliers.

Efficient Networks' line of SpeedStream DSL CPE includes Ethernet-attached external routers and bridges, consumer-installable Universal Serial Bus-attached external modems and internal add-in modems, providing a range of CPE solutions for service providers, Internet service providers, PC OEMs, and network integrators.
