Italian Petroleum Giant, Agippetroli, Chooses PKI Authentication Solution From Secure Computing
AgipPetroli, an ENI Group company, operates in the oil, natural gas, petrochemicals, oilfield services and engineering industries, and is one of the largest natural gas companies in the world with operations in many countries.
AgipPetroli will use SafeWord Plus as a central repository for its corporate user accounts, and to provide digital certificate-based user authentication for its intranet applications, including finance, order processing, and project management.
"SafeWord Plus was the clear choice for us," said Manuela Verni, manager of ICT development division of AgipPetroli. "It gives us a practical and effective way to use PKI for user authentication. The integrated LDAP directory allows us to store every user preference and access rule in a single place."
SafeWord Plus provides organizations with the assurance that the right people have the right access to the right information. It supports the industry's widest range of authentication methods including digital certificates, smart cards, hardware tokens, software tokens and biometrics. SafeWord Plus, which uses an LDAP-based directory, provides granular role-based access control to protect a wide-range of Web, VPN, intranet and extranet applications. The system also includes Web-based user self-enrollment and a unique virtual smart card server, which provides security and mobility without the expense of deploying smart card readers.
The AgipPetroli implementation was designed by Siosistemi Spa, Secure Computing's Italian channel partner. "It's a very innovative design", said Gigi Tagliapietra, president of Siosistemi. "We have combined the quality of SafeWord Plus' authentication system along with our extensive experience designing ASP solutions to meet the needs of AgipPetroli."
"AgipPetroli is known throughout Europe for its high technological standards," said Jay Goldlist, vice president and general manager of Secure Computing's Enterprise Security Division. "SafeWord Plus meets those standards with a reliable, flexible and highly scalable public key infrastructure-based authentication solution."
