Fiber Channel Hub

The A-2316 configurable single/dual loop Fibre Channel hub for storage area network (SAN) applications provides users the ability to configure its six ports as either two independent Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loops each with three ports ( 2 x 3 configuration) or one Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop with six ports (1 x 6 configuration).

Configured as two independent Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loops, the product provides the architecture for an active-active RAID configuration - each loop has one port connected to a host computer and one port connected to each of the two RAID controllers. The hub may be configured as a single Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop with six ports to provide a Storage Area Network for configurations in which multiple host computers access a storage system. To support larger SANs, several hubs may be cascaded together to take advantage of Fibre Channel's support of long cable lengths, support for a large number of devices, and ease of connectivity.

The hub provides 100 Mbps (200 Mbps full duplex) on each Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop, a total of 200 Mbps throughput (400 Mbps full duplex) in the dual loop configuration. The dual loop configuration enables hub to overcome the 100 Mbps limit of a single Fibre Channel Arbitrated Loop.
