Ericsson Unveils Real-Time Router for Wireless Networks

Source: Ericsson, Inc.
Ericsson, Inc.t introduction gives operators a tool to build all-IP wireless networks that provide telecom-grade quality services, <%=company%> (Stockholm, Sweden) is introducing what it calls the first router optimized to handle real-time services on wireless networks. Based on a real-time sensitive implementation of existing and emerging open Internet standards, the new router allows for interoperability with other vendors' equipment, the company said.

The Ericsson Real-time Router RXI 820 is designed specifically to handle the characteristics of wireless access networks, including synchronization of base stations, use of narrowband links, and provision of delay-sensitive services. The new router is based on Ericsson's platform for 3G radio network systems, and incorporates an Internet software protocol suite acquired through Ericsson's majority investment in Telebit Communications. With in eye towards the future, the router handles both Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) and Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), as well as transition between the two.

The real-time router technology of the RXI 820 also will be embedded in other 2G and 3G radio network nodes, such as media gateways and base stations, ensuring end-to-end real-time performance.
