ActiveBatch, which supports NT and Windows 2000, has been introduced. This enterprise product triggers job scheduling using a date/time-based calendar and/or on an event basis. Now jobs can be scheduled ad-hoc - on a recurring basis using definitions like the first Tuesday of every month.

ActiveBatch is easy to use with a GUI interface. It has Queue and Job Wizards that make it easy to prepare jobs for scheduling. The new v.3.0 also includes Runbook View, which allows all jobs to be scheduled so they can be recorded, examined and audited.

Jobs can be monitored for possible failure based upon both Elapsed Time and CPU time and alert and/or aborts can be specified. ActiveBatch allows language independent user checkpointing and job restart in the event of a system crash. Microsoft Cluster Server can further direct jobs to be restarted on the surviving system.

ActiveBatch's feature rich scheduling system allows jobs to be triggered for execution using a date/time-based calendar, and/or on an event basis. Now jobs can be scheduled ad-hoc, on a recurring basis using definitions like the first Tuesday of the month, etc. The product's Event Scheduling is an efficient approach to submitting jobs for execution by making extensive use of defined WMI (WBEM) event information. These jobs, triggered by events, can be run without "looping" to preserve valuable system resources. For example, temporary files can be deleted when free disk space falls below "10%" or a job can be triggered to run when a new file is created in a specified directory. Job Dependencies are an essential component for a production batch system. Jobs can easily be started and submitted based upon the results and status of previously submitted jobs.
