Enterasys Networks Offers Migration Buy Back for 3Com Gear
Enterasys plans to cash in on a large number of 3Com customers that are feeling abandoned after 3Com's announcement last week that it will drop out of the enterprise switching market and instead steer its enterprise customers towards Cupertino, CA-based Extreme Networks. As the number two LAN switching vendor, 3Com's enterprise installed base numbers in the thousands, a rich prize for any number of networking equipment makers. 3Com will discontinue all of its enterprise LAN/WAN switching products by the end of June. Its modem business-3Com's remaining holding from its USRobotics acquisition-will become part of a separate joint venture.
The Enterasys rebate program provides technology rebates of up to $100 for 3Com's Corebuilder 10/100 Ethernet ports, and up to $1,000 dollars for 3Com's Corebuilder Gigabit Ethernet ports. Users can trade in their existing products for Enterasys Networks switching solutions from March 24, 2000 through June 30, 2000.
The program terms and conditions are available on the Enterasys Networks Website (http://www.enterasys.com/buyback).
