Eicon and SSH Partner to Bring IPSEC to ADSL

Looking to add virtual private network (VPN) technology to its remote access products, Eicon Technology (Montreal) is licensing the SSH IPSEC ExpressToolkit from Mountain View, CA-based SSH Communications Security (SSH), a developer of Internet security and advanced cryptography systems. Eicon, a provider of products used for telecommuting, Internet access, and remote LAN access applications, is interested in incorporating Internet protocol security (IPsec) into its product line, especially its asynchronous digital subscriber line (ADSL) product family.

SSH IPSEC Express is a toolkit for implementing IPsec security in networking products. IPsec is the predominant technology used in VPNs, and is an IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) standard for protecting IP traffic using cryptography on the packet level. SSH's IPsec technology adds scaleable, strong security to IP networks without limiting flexibility to enable secure local and global communications between companies, for applications such as e-commerce or e-banking.

ADSL technology is the next wave in high-speed remote access, delivering bandwidth as high as 8 Mbps over existing phone lines. VPN is a key technology for the deployment of many new applications over the Internet that require security of confidential information. IPsec ensures that VPN networks are protected against possible security breaches. By combining ADSL and IPsec in their products, Eicon is providing their customers with a solution for secure remote access to corporate resources over the public network as a way to reduce connectivity costs.
