Efficient's integrated access device earns interoperability certification

DALLAS -- Efficient Networks Inc., a leading provider of broadband digital subscriber line (DSL) solutions, today announced that their SpeedStream 7851 next generation integrated access device (NG-IAD) has been certified as fully interoperable with the CPX-1000 voice services platform from Jetstream Communications, the leader in Voice over Broadband (VoBB) solutions.

The SpeedStream 7851 earned certification after meeting or exceeding a wide range of rigorous compatibility tests completed in Jetstream's interoperability laboratory, a facility that duplicates a true customer environment with GR-303 trunks and industry standard switches.

"Earning this certification proves that Efficient Networks is committed to maintaining their leadership position in the VoDSL arena," said Stephen Gleave, Jetstream's vice president of marketing. "By offering seamless interoperability with Jetstream's broadband gateway solutions, Efficient's NG-IAD will facilitate implementation of VoDSL services that support the highest possible quality of service and reliability."

The certification was awarded only after it was demonstrated that Efficient's NG-IAD could meet the most stringent performance requirements of today's VoDSL market--in a real-world environment that was connected through the actual phone network for live testing.

The device passed all tests with flying colors and proved itself capable of fully supporting Jetstream's VoiceBand (tm) message-based signaling protocol. VoiceBand is compliant with Common Channel Signaling, part of the ATM Forum's Broadband Loop Emulation Services (BLES) standard.

"One enabler for the successful deployment of VoDSL technology is real world interperability between central office gateway products and CPE solutions," said Mike Lowe, senior analyst for emerging broadband access at Pioneer Consulting (Boston, Massachusetts). "As a result, the certification of Efficient's NG-IAD by Jetstream is likely to have a very positive impact on the growth rate of this burgeoning market."

"Efficient Networks is committed to delivering the highest quality integrated access products in the marketplace and this certification is proof positive of this strategy," said Todd Tatum, Efficient's senior product manager. "With the SpeedStream 7851 and the Jetstream CPX-1000, service providers can now offer comprehensive end-to-end VoDSL solutions that feature the toll-quality, carrier-class quality of service and reliability, their customers demand-and deserve."
