Source: EDS
EDSm of California counties have signed an 11-year contract worth $321 million with IT services provider <%=company%> (Plano, TX) to design, develop, and implement a new information system to streamline service delivery through multiple assistance programs operating within the counties. The new CalWORKs Information Network (CalWIN) will be used to improve the way services are delivered to 40% of the social service caseload in California. The largest system of its kind in the country, CalWIN will replace a 30-year-old legacy system.
More than one million individuals who receive assistance from human services programs, including Medicaid, food stamps, general assistance, and the California Welfare-to-Work Program, ultimately will be affected by the positive benefits of updated technology. The cross-platform, client-server based system will employ technologies that include servers, personal computer workstations, printers, LANs, wide-area networks, intranets, and the Internet. EDS heads a team of technology companies, such as Deloitte Consulting (San Francisco) that will be responsible for developing and operating the system.
