DMC Stratex Networks secures $9.8M in orders from China Unicom

The contracts include requirements for the Altium, XP4, and DXR product lines in the 7 GHz, 15 GHz and 18 GHz radio frequency bands. The orders for equipment ranging from 155-Mbps to lower-capacity long haul products operating in multiple frequencies demonstrate the benefits of the broad wireless product offering of DMC Stratex Networks. Shipments have already begun this quarter.
China Unicom is a leading provider of integrated telecommunications services in China, offering a range of services including cellular, paging, long distance, data and Internet services to more than 12 million cellular subscribers and more than 44 million paging subscribers.
It will utilize DMC Stratex Networks' products to interconnect its base stations within its GSM networks in a number of Chinese provinces, including Guangdong, Guangxi, Jilin, Hebei, Yunan, Shaanxi and Ningxia, for data and voice communications for its mobile subscribers.
DMC Stratex Networks won the orders in partnership with PTIC Capitel Group (Beijing Telecommunications Equipment Factory), a major manufacturer of telecommunications products and an official representative of DMC Stratex Networks within China. The PTIC Capitel Group provides system integration, localized installation, technical support and customer service for DMC Stratex Networks systems within China.
"We are pleased to have won these orders to provide equipment for the expansion of the communications network for China Unicom, a leading cellular telecommunications service provider," said Sam Smookler, DMC Stratex Networks president and CEO. "China Unicom DMC Stratex Networks has been a long-time customer of ours since it began its operation in 1995. This announcement further solidifies our strategic relationship with them, as we've emerged as China Unicom's major wireless supplier over the past several years for its rapidly expanding networks."
Altium is designed to meet the demanding requirements of high-speed cellular and wireless access networks, delivering data, voice and video in systems operating in frequencies from 7 GHz to 38 GHz. Altium uses high-density 128 QAM modulation to deliver 155-Mbps wireless fiber-like access capacity in only 28 MHz of radio frequency bandwidth. Recently Altium won the fixed wireless solution Product of the Year Award for 2000 from Internet Telephony Magazine, and was named a 2000 Best of the Best Award finalist by InternetWeek.
The XP4 is a quickly installed, low-cost wireless network solution. It offers the flexibility of transmission capacities from 2 Mbps to 45 Mbps, and frequency bands from 7 GHz to 38 GHz. DXR radios, like their high-capacity Altium counterparts, are the most spectrally efficient offerings in their class. The DXR is specifically designed to provide low- to medium-capacity wireless connectivity for medium- to long-haul trunking applications.
