A new T-1 VOIP gateway in a desktop box about the size of an answering machine has been announced. The MultiVOIP MVP2400 is the industry's first true desktop digital voice/fax over IP gateway. It is designed for the enterprise market targeted to those companies needing more than a few VOIP lines but not wanting the expense of carrier class digital VOIP system capable of supporting T1 bandwidth. The desktop unit connects to a T1 trunk from a PBX or other telephone equipment on one end, and any IP network via 10BaseT on the other. The new MultiVOIP, shipping this quarter, is a complementary product to the company's line of VOIP gateways and gatekeeper.

The MultiVOIP is an inexpensive, stand-alone voice/fax-over-IP gateway that connects to a headquarters PBX using a T1 trunk interface and to an existing IP network via a 10BaseT interface. Using the IP network, it connects to a remote office PBX or to a key telephone system providing toll free voice and fax calls. The MultiVOIP comes equipped with a variety of data compression capabilities including G.729. It features DiffServ quality of service (QoS) capabilities and enhanced industry interoperability using H.323.
