Cryptekmely Robust New Product Offers the First Security Solution For the E-Commerce Market Boasting NSA-Level Protection Against Attack

LAS VEGAS, NV—May 9, 2000—<%=company%> Secure Communications LLC today introduced DiamondTEK, the e-commerce industry's first hardware-based, extremely robust network security solution for enterprises and e-marketplaces. DiamondTEK is setting a new industry standard for B2B e-commerce security, by providing trading partners using e-marketplaces with commercial versions of the same high-level, hardware-based security solutions that currently protect sensitive government networks.

Developed and rigorously tested in conjunction with the National Security Agency, Cryptek's DiamondTEK system provides an elegant solution for the security concerns of B2B e-commerce entrepreneurs demanding a better security solution. E-marketplaces need network security that's not only more robust, but also non-intrusive to clearinghouse functions, simultaneously allowing generous access to multiple users while keeping individual transactions absolutely separate and invisible from each other. This is very important as companies' migrate their supply-chain management activities to the Internet.

Cryptek's DiamondTEK uniquely satisfies all of these concerns. Utilizing a combination ofIP security, firewall filtering, user I&A, central management, audit, and specially designed network cards, DiamondTEK gives administrators the tools to create a plethora of "secure virtual networks" or SVNs within a single network. DiamondTEK creates an environment where multiple levels and categories of secure communications can co-exist without one interfering with the other.

DiamondTEK empowers administrators to manage information flow on a strict need-to-know basis, with users given as much or as little access as they need. DiamondTEK supports a hierarchy of up to 256 distinct sensitivity levels and 65,500 different information categories.

DiamondTEK Starter Kits are available now directly from Cryptek at a starting price of $12,995.

"As industries becomes more and more nervous that B2B e-commerce means extruding their networks out onto the Internet, they need a security solution they can really trust," said Cryptek CEO and President David E. Gross. "This is a security management model perfectly suited to emerging B2B Internet clearing houses. It assures that a manufacturer, for example, can trade with a supplier that also serves his competitor, confident not only that DiamondTEK will shield the transaction from competitors, it also can limit its exposure within the supplier's organization, and maintain security even in the event of malicious hacker attacks on either the clearinghouse or the supplier."

Cryptek is also targeting the healthcare industry with DiamondTEK to help bring stability to the that marketplace, which faces unique challenges in meeting the high security and privacy standards of providers, patients, insurers and government regulators.

Because DiamondTEK is hardware-based, users gain a much higher level of security than is possible with any software-based solution. Acting as a system's gatekeeper, the overall system is extremely sensitive to any attempts to stray outside of the parameters established by the administrator.

"A fundamental problem with firewalls and VPNs (virtual private networks) is that any security implemented solely with software can be subverted with software," said John W. Garber, Cryptek's Vice President of Marketing. "Given the way network hackers constantly devise new ways to break into systems you can never really be sure that the security mechanisms you paid for are fully protecting you if they are implemented in software."

The DiamondTEK system supplements other security mechanisms with two types of hardware:

  • DiamondCentral is posited with the network security administrator, who uses it to establish and enforce the network access security policy; and,
  • DiamondNIC is a secure network interface card that replaces a user's existing network interface card. Utilizing information transferred from DiamondCentral, it automatically identifies and authenticates the user to the network--thus locking out attempts at forgery--encrypts the communications and determines what SVNs the user is authorized to access.

DiamondTEK not only blocks unauthorized access, it immediately logs the infraction and alerts the administrator of a possible attempt to breach security. Any time a user picks a SVN he is not authorized to use or attempts access from a computer that he is not authorized to use, access is denied and the attempt is logged. The audit log provides an invaluable tool for analyzing network activity of interest to security administrators.
