Clarinet Systems, Inc. was founded for the purpose of providing short-range, wireless network connectivity for notebook, handheld and palm-sized PCs and Internet appliances to the corporate enterprise and Internet. With the increasing use and deployment of these portable devices into the enterprise as a primary means of gathering and disseminating information, there is a corresponding need for immediate, on-demand network access that is cost-effective, easy to use, install and maintain.

The company's Infrared-based EthIR LAN® and EthIR WAN™ meet this demand. Based on the IrDA's (Infrared Data Association) 4 Mbps data transfer standard, users have dedicated network connectivity without need for cables, cradles, Ethernet and RF cards or a host PC. A 16 Mbps standard has been approved by IrDA and will be incorporated into Clarinet Systems products early in the year 2000.

Palm-size communications devices with their built-in IR ports can be found in virtually every industry and business today in corporate America and the rest of the world. Typical vertical markets include education, healthcare and hospitals, financial services, short and long range delivery services, hotels, airport lounges and hospitality suites and any organization that has a large and vibrant mobile work force.

IrDA-compliance is fully supported by Microsoft, Apple, Palm and Linux in their operating system software. With its high bandwidth and point-to-point connectivity, infrared technology is used to provide universal network access in the office, home, school, hotel, library, convention center, or any public area.
