Cayman Systems Ships ADSL Router to SOHO Market

Customer premise equipment provider Cayman Systems is offering network administrators a new way to connect Ethernet networks to the Internet via asymmetrical digital subscriber line (ADSL) technology. The company is now shipping the ADSL3220 Ethernet-to-Internet router, which allows LAN-wide Internet access over a single ADSL line at rates of up to 8 Mbps. The ADSL3220 also can be used as a remote LAN connection that provides cost effective Ethernet-to-Ethernet connectivity over an ADSL link.

The ADSL3220 router also supports the recently approved "G.lite" standard—a lower speed variation of ADSL. Its primary benefit is that it does not require a voice/data "splitter" to be installed on the phone line. This simplifies installation to the point where, in most cases, a service call by the telephone company is unnecessary.

The router can be shipped either as a full-rate or "lite" ADSL product. Cayman is using a third generation software-programmable MTK-20131 DynaMiTe chipset licensed from Alcatel.
