Cayman Extends Marketing Agreement With Nortel
Stoneham, MA-based Cayman Systems has extended its marketing agreement with Nortel Networks (Brampton, ON) to market Cayman's new ADSL 3220H modem/router. By combining an ADSL modem with a multi-user LAN router, the companies can offer service providers equipment that lets small business LAN users access the Internet or a remote LAN via shared ADSL services. The product is targeted at regional Bell operating companies (RBOCs), incumbent local exchange companies, and Internet service providers. The ADSL 3200H integrates Cayman's SOHO router, the 2E500, with an ADSL modem for a one-box product that allows LAN-wide Internet access over a single ADSL line at rates up to 8 Mbps.
The ADSL 3220H is a full-featured, 4-port ADSL router/modem. The router functionality of the ADSL 3220H is based upon the Cayman Swift IP software. The router features a 10Base-T Ethernet connection to a LAN, a RJ-45 ADSL connection, and includes security features to allow hosting of web services without risking the integrity of information on the LAN.
In October, 1998, Cayman entered into an agreement where Nortel Networks began marketing the 2E500 alongside other Nortel products. The extended agreement means that Nortel and its resellers will be able to offer ADSL service providers yet another reason for their small business customers to shift to the higher access speeds of ADSL that are more affordable than existing V.90 (56 Kbps), ISDN, and fractional T-1 alternatives.
