Will your current data network cable support the requirements of increasing bandwidth and speed
Will your current data network cable support the requirements of increasing bandwidth and speed? Has your data cable been certified to operate at 100 megabits per second or at 100 megahertz? American Digital Technologies can test your network cable and identify the capacity of your cable system. We will provide you with certified hard copy results of each cable tested. If your cable is over 5 years old, the maximum capacity of your network is only 10 megabits per second. If you are purchasing new workstations for your local area network, which can operate at speeds up to 100 megabits per second, your cable is creating a bottleneck. Your operating system may only be performing at 10% efficiency.
Even if your network cable was recently installed, if it wasn't installed properly, you may not have the system you paid for. There are many variables that can cause poor performance in your cabling system. Category five cable must be installed in compliance with EIA/TIA specifications for it to perform at its capacity. The following installation practices must be adhered to in order to achieve maximum performance from your cable system:
Bend radius must be a minimum of 4 times the outside diameter of the cable.
Pulling tension on the cable must not exceed 25 pounds.
J-hooks must be placed to support the cables at 48 to 60 inch intervals.
A minimum of 12-inch clearance from electrical conduits must be maintained.
A minimum of 5-inch clearance must be maintained from fluorescent lighting.
The cable length must not exceed 295 feet. (328 feet including patch cables)
Pair twist must be maintained within 1/2" of termination.
If your cable system was not installed following these guidelines, it could fail and important data could be lost or corrupted. Testing and certification is your insurance to guarantee this does not happen due to poor cable performance.
American Digital Technologies can evaluate your existing cable system, identify potential problems, and provide solutions to bring your system "up to speed" and into compliance with the current standards.
